Partnership with Supermassive Games

Our partnership with Supermassive Games began back in 2021, and over the following years, we’ve worked on most of their major releases – House of Ashes, The Devil in Me, and The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR. We contributed Unreal Engine programming, gameplay systems, art production, and VR features, while setting up shared workflows for reviews and integration. We then joined the development of Little Nightmares III to implement core gameplay systems.

About Project

Little Nightmares is a series of atmospheric puzzle-adventure games where players must guide lost children through distorted, nightmarish worlds, filled with oversized and unsettling threats. The first two titles earned a strong reputation for their haunting visuals, creative puzzles, and ability to tell stories without words. Little Nightmares III builds on this foundation but introduces a major change: cooperative play. Players follow Low and Alone, two children trying to escape the twisted realm called the Nowhere. The game can be played online with a partner or solo with AI support.

Our Contribution

A major part of our responsibility was handling game mechanics. Many systems from earlier Little Nightmares titles had to be carried over. They needed to feel the same to players who knew the series, while also taking advantage of a new engine version. This meant rewriting or adapting mechanics so they retained their familiar rhythm and responsiveness.

In parallel, we worked on entirely new mechanics designed specifically for Little Nightmares III. These had to blend seamlessly with the established style of the franchise, matching both the atmosphere and the pacing of previous games.

One of the technically demanding areas was the cooperative replication system. With online co-op being central to this installment, it was necessary to ensure smooth synchronization between players. N-iX Games helped to develop solutions to minimize delays and keep interactions fluid, so that puzzles, movement, and character behaviors would feel natural whether played online with a partner or in single-player mode with AI.
