The Dark Pictures Anthology is a series of story-driven horror games where player choices shape the outcome. Each entry tells a standalone story with branching narratives and cinematic presentation.
In The Devil in Me, a group of documentary filmmakers receives an invitation to visit a modern-day replica of H.H. Holmes’ infamous “Murder Hotel.” What begins as a promising opportunity quickly turns into a nightmare. The crew realizes they are being watched, manipulated, and trapped inside a deadly game.
Players must explore the hotel, solve puzzles, and make difficult choices that determine who survives.
The N-iX Games team joined the project at the beginning of production and contributed to multiple core gameplay systems. Our Unreal Engine developers worked on several mechanics across the game, including:
We also collaborated with the Supermassive Games team to improve an automated bot system capable of playing through the game from start to finish. This system helps detect blockers and supports large-scale QA testing. It allowed the team to run many automated playthroughs and identify issues earlier in development.
The Devil in Me was released on November 18, 2022 for PC and consoles.
During development, our engineers worked as an extension of the Supermassive Games team. We collaborated closely with their in-house developers, shared the same workflows, and tackled technical challenges together along the way. We are grateful for the open collaboration and the welcoming, inclusive environment the Supermassive Games team created throughout the project.
Let’s start with an in-depth analysis of your idea, a high-level quote, and project plan. Once we smoothen all the rough edges we can proceed to the complete design, development, and production of your game, followed by release and post-release support.
